The legendary troupe Cleo Parker Robinson Dance opens the program with a palette of stirring
modern dance. When the curtain rises on the second half of the program, the dancers join the
prestigious New Orleans Jazz Orchestra for a breathtaking performance of “Sacred Spaces,” inspired
by the burning of three Black Churches in St. Landry Parish and the reconciliation and redemption of
the congregations that followed.
This powerful night of modern dance and exquisite jazz, originally envisioned by PASA Executive
Director Jackie Lyle, whose idea was enthusiastically taken up by these two ensembles. Sacred
Spaces, which has now toured, combines dance, live music, and the spoken word, with a backdrop
of the photography of acclaimed Louisianian Debbie Fleming Caffery.
Cleo Parker Robinson is one of the most important women in dance and Adonis Rose, artistic
director of the New Orleans Jazz Orchestra, is making tracks around the globe. Robinson and Rose
collaborated on every phase of this inspiring work.
